Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness is the practice of being aware of the present moment and allowing non-judgment for whatever it is we experience. Instead of focusing on what has already happened or what is yet to come, we practice focusing on what it is that is happening right now. Often this involves exercises that guide us to tune into our five senses (taste, smell, touch, sight, hearing) and reactions within our body.

While there is no guarantee of counseling outcomes, mindfulness has been shown to have various benefits for our mental health and overall well-being, including the following:

  • Supporting positive emotions
  • Regulation of emotions
  • Relaxation
  • Increased empathy toward others and ourselves
  • Increased self-compassion and self-esteem
  • Increased ability to focus
  • Improved memory
  • Decreased anxiety/depression/symptoms of trauma
  • Decreased physical and emotional pain
  • Decreased emotional reactivity and anger
  • Reduced insomnia
  • Reduced negative effects of stress

I’ll help you explore ways to incorporate mindfulness practices into your life, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances. My approach to counseling comes from a place of empowerment allowing you the support to gain self-awareness and create changes that will guide you toward balance.
